SCHOOL SPORT UPDATE JANUARY 2023

FOOTBALL

The new school football team have played two games so far this season and although they haven’t won either of the games they played, they have shown a great attitude and commitment which will hopefully lead to some better results when games start again in the spring. Well done to all who have played so far: James, Ethan, Michael, George, Owen, Liam, Bobby, Dylan, Harry, Rowan, Jude and Mason.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

The Girls team have also played two games, winning one and drawing the other. They are looking forward to more matches soon and the chance to try and follow up their league win last season. Well done to all who have played; Harriet, Brogan, Holly, Chloe C, Chloe H, Sophia, Bella, Poppy, Harleigh,Evie and Savannah

NETBALL

A team from Y5 and Y6 took part in the annual Maghull and District Netball tournament at Maricourt High School. The team won all 3 of their group matches to qualify for the final which they won comfortably to finish as tournament winners ! Congratulations to team members Shifra, Hallie, Joseph, Isaac, Lewis, Chloe and Poppy.

The netball squad have also won all of their league matches so far this season and continue to impress everyone with the way they play together as a team. Well done to all of the squad who are those who played in the tournament above plus Holly.

Y4 KICK ROUNDERS

This was a new sport for us to play this year, and after only a few weeks practice a team was entered into the Maghull and District tournament. Winning all of their matches, Y4 finished as overall winners which was a fantastic achievement for them. The winning team members were Jude, Lexie, Rowan, Harriet, Teddie, Evie, Sebastian, Bella and Mason. Well done all of you.

BOYS FOOTBALL

The boys football team have finished the league season in 4th place in the main league and 3rd place in the Jubilee league. This means they qualify to play semi-finals in both competitions in the next couple of weeks. They will be difficult games to win, but the squad have done extremely well to even qualify, beating some much larger schools along the way.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

Congratulations to the girls football squad who have won the Maghull and District Girls Football league ! They won 6 of their 8 games over the season, only losing narrowly once, when 3 regular players were unavailable. This is something to be really proud of for the whole squad who are made up mostly from Y5 and Y4 girls. (Not to forget our 2 girls from Y6 of course !) Again, they now qualify to play in the semi-final of the Cup competition. Well done girls, fantastic achievement.

SCHOOL SPORT UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021

HOCKEY

Y5 took part in the Maghull and District Schools Y5 hockey tournament competing against 5 other local schools. We didn’t know what to expect having not played hockey matches before, but they all took to it straight away winning their first game 2-0 against Davenhill. This was followed by 2-0 against St Gregory’s, 3-0 against Green Park and a very enjoyable 4-0 against St. John Bosco. The last match we took our foot off the gas and only managed a 1-0 win against St Andrews.

So 5 games played, all won, 12 goals scored, 0 conceded and a tournament win ! Absolutely fantastic from the 5 players who were Dylan, Ethan, Chloe H, Brogan and Poppy. Every player was fantastic in defence and attack, but a special mention for Poppy who scored  9 of the goals, or maybe it was 10 ! Huge well done to you all. You will be able to collect the winning trophy at the sports award presentation evening at the end of the school year.

FOOTBALL

5 a side Football Tournaments

The girls football team took part in a 5 a side tournament reaching the semifinal stage. This was a great effort as the team were missing 2 of their best players through illness and injury. Very well done to all the girls from Y4 and Y5 who took part; Harriet, Brogan, Chloe, Sophia, Bella and Poppy. We are sure you will go back next year and do even better !

The boys football team also took part in the Maghull and District 5-a-side tournament reaching the semi-finals. There was real disappointment when they were winning their semi-final with seconds to go, but then conceding a late goal leading to a penalty shoot-out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be and we all left feeling deflated. However, the boys had played really well and should be very proud of their performance.
