Autumn 2019

Find all the information for the Autumn Term in the following Y1 class newsletter.

Enjoy looking through our Autumn term section below to find out what we got up to in 2019...

Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming...

It's Christmas Eve and the reindeer are fed up - all they want is a night off for a change! Off they go on their holidays to Tenerife, leaving Santa to deliver the presents in his shiny, new snowmobile. But hang on, the snowmobile just won't start...there's gonna be TROUBLE!

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot!

We learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We were amazed that it happened over 400 years ago and that Guy Fawkes had 36 barrels of gunpowder! We carefully created colourful firework pictures using chalk pastels.

Learning to Code in Year One

with Purple Mash

We are learning about algorithms and about debugging with Purple Mash. We had fun making the undersea creatures move about in different ways!

Getting confident on the large apparatus...

We've had fun using the large apparatus, travelling onto and along the benches. We've also been practising different rolls, like forward rolls and backward rolls, on the mats.

Windmill Farm

We had a brilliant day down at the farm! We fed the animals, learnt all about animals and their babies and how to look after farm animals. We even got to hold a snake, to stroke a tortoise and to see the tarantulas in the critters zone...COOL!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Cup Winners from September and October

ART ATTACK Autumn 2019

We followed on from our self portraits with a study of the artist Paul Klee. We used oil pastels to draw abstract CRAZY FACES using Paul Klee's Senecio as our inspiration.

Tales and Toast

We had a lovely start to the day, reading books and eating toast with our parents...

Meet the Teacher Sessions

Many thanks to all parents who came to these sessions. If you didn't attend, you should already have received your pack for the year from me. If you haven't got yours yet, please see me A.S.A.P.  Miss Roberts

Getting to grips with sh and ch...

Strike a Pose!

In gymnastics we have been working on mats and on the floor. Once we've mastered this, we'll be onto the apparatus, so watch this space!

Heads and shoulders, knees and toes

We've been labeling the bodies to check that we know the names of all the body parts...

We LOVE Maths!

We have been learning about place value and using it to help us with our additions. Check out these neat numbers all set out carefully in the boxes in our Maths books!

Self-portraits - Can you tell who they are?

Such a good-looking class!
