VICTORIAN SERVANTS

We became Victorians again for the day - this time we were Victorian servants!

We all took our jobs in the big house very seriously!

We had to do exactly as we were told by the head servant!

Year One Book Club starts on Tuesday 10th May and will run every Tuesday 3.00 - 3.45 for five weeks

Planting in Year One

We are learning what seeds need to germinate and what plants need to grow.

SPRING 2022

HOMEWORK continues to be set every Friday, to be completed by the following Friday, on Education City and Purple Mash. E-Books are available every day for reading on Oxford Owl - there is a half-termly pack of books for every child to revise the sounds children have been learning. Please read these books as many times as necessary to help consolidate the sounds - A NEW READING REVISION UNIT WILL BE SET ON OXFORD OWL AFTER EASTER FOR THE NEXT HALF TERM OR INDIVIDUALLY AS CHILDREN COMPLETE THESE READING REVISION UNITS.

Reading scheme continues with books sent home three times a week, enough for a daily home read. Please send books in:

Boys - Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Girls - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Learning To Count In 2s

Exploring 2D and 3D Shapes

We used lolly sticks to explore different ways of making 2D shapes.

We learnt what pentagons, hexagons and octagons are and sorted the pictures into sets.

We tried to find some of the 3D shapes in our classroom and garden.

Science Week 2021

MONDAY - Learning about rainbows and creating a rainbow with a torch and mirror in a dark classroom was fun. It was great to grow our own rainbows using absorbent paper and colours.

TUESDAY - The scientist who visited was the BEST FUN EVER! It was so exciting and we loved his incredible experiments said the children.

How AMAZING to set off a homemade rocket in the carpark!

WEDNESDAY - We experimented with oil and water and discovered that they don't mix. We made glitter sensory bottles with oil, water and glitter.

THURSDAY - We had so much fun making super soft sensory cloud dough. It was hard to do all the mixing but it was interesting to watch the ingredients combine to make a new material!

FRIDAY - We explored liquids and solids and melted chocolate to make crispy cakes today...mmm! What a great way to end the week with a fun, interesting activity - DELICIOUS too!

We have been making the most of the nice weather before the cold weather arrives...

We have been using cubes to help us with our calculations. We have been learning to add and subtract and how to solve addition and subtraction problems.

The children said that the cubes helped them with their work!

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back everyone - it's just so good to be back! It has been great getting to know the children (and learning their names!) and they have been getting on with working and playing in their new classroom. The first two days has made me super excited about the rest of the year and all the great things we will be getting up to - watch this page as I will post regularly with updates of how we are getting on! Full class information will be posted in the class newsletter but for now, reading days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday for boys and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for girls. P.E. days are Tuesday and Thursday and homework is set every Friday afternoon, due in the following Friday. Please pop in and see us if you have any questions...and I look forward to meeting you all soon in person.
