SATs Update

Just to update parents and guardians, we have worked our way through our papers! The Year Two team were very impressed at the children’s resilience, dedication and focus during this time. We will be able to update you with their results at the end of the school year. Morning intervention is no longer running and children are returning to their usual timetable. Thank you again for all your support and please be proud of your superstar children!

Reminder - all lunches booked for after half term were deleted (and reimbursed) last week due to the new menu being introduced.

Apologies for this is it just how parentpay works and out of our hands. Please check your lunches and re book if need be.

You must also select a dessert as well as 1 main meal before you can confirm your bookings. Lunches for the first week back must be booked by Wednesday 12th April 12pm. Any problems please email me at admin.melling@schools.sefton.gov.uk

Thanks again for your understanding - Have a lovely Easter break!

School Closure

If school is closed tomorrow or your child is not attending school due to weather complications, work will be set on Oxford Owl and Education City to complete. Please contact the me, via the class email, if you do not have the log in details for your child.

Oxford Owl

Please log onto Oxford Owl this evening, in place of your children's home reading book. There is also a quiz which will be set as homework for this week. We are in the middle of assessing children's reading; therefore, they may have moved bands when books are returned on Thursday. Below is some guidance on phonics.

Party Day

Just a reminder that tomorrow (20.12.22), is a party day for the children. Children can bring their own plate of party food. Children will still receive their lunch on this day- just a little extra so please don't feel the need to indulge too much! Also, they are also allowed to come dressed in their own party clothes!

Good evening all!

I have the following costumes from previous years ;

6 Stars

5 Angels

1 Shepherd

1 Innkeeper

1 Camel

2 Kings

Please do not feel pressured to go and buy an expensive costume, homemade are just as special! If there are any issues, please let me know.

2.12.22 Update

This coming week...

Just a reminder that our phonics workshop for parents in Year Two will be on the 8th December at 10.:30am (Thursday).

Thank you to all those who attended parent -teacher meetings last week. I am still waiting to catch up with a small number of parents; therefore, feedback sheets will be sent out on Monday, once I have spoken to those parents.

Homework

In place of homework this week, I would like children to practice their lines. Spellings will go home on Monday as usual. Please ensure your child practices these once a day. I know the play contains a lot of lines, so I am giving my eager beavers extra time to practice in the place of homework.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Great Fire of London assembly

Year Two are very nice excited to invite you to our assembly about the Great Fire of London. I was hoping to invite parents to our assembly this coming Monday (14th November) after school finishes at 3:20. However, I realise that a couple of children have pro skills on this day. Therefore, I would like to ask parents to attend at 2:15.
We look forward to seeing you then!

Oxford Owl

Your children have all been set up with Oxford Owl log ins for additional reading at home. These books will mirror the book they are focusing on in school, and will be updated weekly. There may be more than one book and is part of the RWI phonic scheme. Please write this in their reading journals, as this will count as an additional home read.

Thank you!

04.10.22 Update

Year Two are looking forward to celebrating harvest week and will be looking at the rights and needs of children, with a particular focus on the book “The UN Rights of Children”. Food donations will be greatly appreciated if this is possible and we are collecting yellow food items. These food items will

be donated to a local food bank. Also, we will be looking at some baseline “papers” for me to gain a better understanding of where your children currently sit in comparison to the KS1 end of year expectations. This is nothing to be alarmed at and the children will be reassured that this is merely a little check for their teacher on what needs to happen for future learning. I hope you have all had a lovely, well-rested weekend and look forward to another fun week of learning!

16.9.22 Update

Happy Friday! As your children are settling beautifully into Year Two, you may notice they are very tired this weekend. We have been working very hard, recognising tens and ones in maths and practicing the ‘ay ’ and ‘ee’sound in phonics. Please help your child recognise and write as many words containing these sounds as possible. We have also started work on some of our topics. Within science, we have been learning all about materials and their uses. Furthermore, we have loved learning about The Great Fire of London! I hope you all have a lovely weekend and will keep you updated every two weeks with what is going on within class!

** Homework Update*

Homework will be sent out Wednesday this week. Please return by Monday.**

Hello year two adults!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a warm welcome to all my lovely children in Year Two and their adults. My name is Miss Wood and I am your children's new teacher. We are also very fortunate to have Mrs Ashton, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Bresnahan as part of the Year Two Melling family.
We are looking forward to the journey ahead with your precious cherubs. I know that this class has had a difficult beginning in Primary school and have had multiple disruptions due to school closures; therefore, I really hope that this will be the year that we are able to give them a full, happy and structured year. Year Two is often quite challenging for children, as the amount, and standard of work jumps up quite significantly; however, I am confident that the children will settle into their new routine and take pride in being the top of the infants! My door is always open and please contact me if there are any issues. Please be mindful that I am taking care of your  precious cargo during the day and cannot access emails during the day. I do often find that sometimes a phone call is best and will call you back as soon as is possible. My role is to make sure your child is happy, safe, loved and receives an enriched and wonderful education. Their happiness comes before anything, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

PE

PE will be be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please send your child to school in their PE kits on those days. It saves a lot of time and gives us more time for fun lessons!

Homework

I will be sending out homework books on Monday. These will have your child's spellings and one piece of written work (Maths or English). The spellings should be completed once per day and then finished and handed in on a Friday. They will usually be given out on a Friday so please accept my apologies for the loss of two days this week- it has been a very busy week! I know how precious family time is at weekends; however, homework is vital for our children at the moment to offer more opportunities to extend their learning and really solidify their knowledge gained throughout the school day. Additionally, children should read a minimum of three times per week. At Melling primary school, we encourage you to read a few pages with your child read each night and read these pages three times.

Once for simple decoding - sounding the words out and word recognition.

Second time is for revision of words that were tricky within the first decoding session and exploring the meaning of some unfamiliar words.

Third time is for fluency, adding some expression and then asking some simple questions to gain a better understanding eg., why do you think Dad was unhappy?

I look forward to meeting you all in your 'getting to know your teacher' welcome sessions coming up this Tuesday. I hope you and your children had a lovely weekend!
