WORLD BOOK DAY THURSDAY 7^th MARCH

Poetry is valuable for all of us for many reasons: it was invented as a good way to remember important things and interesting things. It still does this, through its musical sounds, rhythms and rhymes. It’s also a good way to play with the language around us and playing pleases us. Life goes by very quickly. Poetry is a way of stopping things for a moment and pointing out something to us. It gives us time to reflect.     Michael Rosen

Dear Parents/Carers

WORLD BOOK DAY IS ON THURSDAY 7^TH MARCH and as usual we will be celebrating this with our children. We are looking to do something different this year and our theme for World Book Day will be a focus on POETRY. We want to encourage children to develop an interest in a wide range of poetry and to be able to perform a poem with expression, feeling and enthusiasm.

There are all sorts of poems that children should be introduced to:  limericks, little two line jingles, rhyming, non-rhyming, using words to paint a picture, using words to express emotions, telling a story etc Poetry books are full of exciting short stories or glimpses of the world from someone else’s point of view.

BOOK CHARACTER COSTUME SWAP:

If your child would like to come dressed as a book character on the day – they are welcome to do so. However, we are not requesting that all children do this – so please don’t spend money on buying a new outfit! The week before World Book Day (26^th Feb), if you have any Book Day costumes that you now longer require – there will be a rail underneath the canopy. Hopefully this can be used as a swapping point – place a costume on and if you need a new costume for your child take one off! In the meantime do try and read some poetry with your child.
