Year 2 Handwriting Group
A massive well done to the children who attended Mrs Cliffe's handwriting group. The children worked extremely hard. Thank you also to the parents who helped to get their children to the group.
Welcome to Year 2's page
We hope you enjoy looking at all the things we get up to in Y2!
What a great start we have had to the summer term - the children are looking super smart and are definitely nearly ready for Y3!
This week, we learnt lots about Florence Nightingale and wrote some fantastic letters, using exclamation sentences. What a delight it was to see such wonderful writing!
We have also been learning about HOMOPHONES - can your child remember what they are and give you some examples?
A sailor went to sea, sea, sea
To see what he could see, see, see
What a wonderful trip we had to Knowsley Safari Park in the first week back - the children were so well behaved and enjoyed every minute of it. As Finley said "This is the best trip ever!"
Thanks again to all the parents who came to help on our trip.
Spring 1 Weeks 3 - 6
Where is the time going? Check out the photos below to see all the fantastic things we have been up to in Y2!
Spring 1 - Weeks 2 & 3
What a lovely two weeks we have had in Y2. From a visit from Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf (who has now thankfully been found and arrested) to designing and creating finger puppets in Design & Technology.
Our Very Merry Christmas Show
I am sure all mums and dads will agree with how wonderful the show was and are just as proud as the Y2 team are of the children. They worked so hard to learn all of the words and their performance was fantastic - what a lovely way to start Christmas!
Weeks 4 - 6
Wow - Y2 children have really impressed us with their super maths. We have been learning to subtract through addition using a number line, which is quite tricky.
Thank you to all parents who came to the meetings - it was lovely to meet you all properly. Your support at home is greatly appreciated.
Autumn 2 Weeks 3 - 4
Y2 children have been working very hard writing instructions on how to trap stone giants and water goblins. They also wrote their own chosen set of instructions for dragons.
In Maths, children wrote their own addition word problems, using place value to know work out the answers.
Autumn 2 Week 2
Anti-bullying week got off to a great start with the Bully Busters Assembly and circle time with Miss Goulbourn. Y2 wrote some wonderful sets of instructions on how to say no to bullying.
A Big WELL DONE to Joshua H for being Y2 Star of the Week!
What a wonderful first week we have had back in school.
I was SO impressed with everyone's excellent behaviour on the school trip - you made us all really proud.
The Jewish Synagogue was beautiful and we listened to Roy tell us about the Jewish beliefs.
After that, we went to the Walker Art Gallery for lunch before heading to World Museum to explore.
Before going home, we went back to the Walker Art Gallery to do a variety of activities before going on a painting hunt.
Every year group are lucky to have a full two days focusing on art. Today, we looked at making patterns using a variety of pencils and applying different pressure to make the marks lighter ad darker. We then looked at Samuel Pepys and drew a portrait of him.
We definitely have some amazing artists in Y2!
Weeks 6, 7 and 8
Time flies when we're having fun!
Well done to Mary for a well deserved Apter Cup Award - what a wonderful member of Y2 she is.
A big round of applause for our Star of the Week, Rueben and for our Courtesy Cup Winner, Finley. What super stars you both are!
In Y2, we have been planning exciting stories involving monsters - watch this space for some of our fabulous writing!
Next week is 'Inspirations and Aspirations Week'. Please discuss with your children who inspires them so they can share their inspirations in school.
Well done Evie for being Star of the Week.
Also a round of applause for out superstars for the Head teacher's certificate.
